Shortly after forming Technical Innovation Center, Lev Shulyak, Richard Langevin, and Steve Rodman had the idea for a non-for-profit institution to promote TRIZ in North America under the auspices of Genrikh Altshuller. The Altshuller Institute was a fulfillment of Lev Shulyak's long-time dream. They approached Mr. Altshuller in 1995 about creating the institute in the United States. Genrikh Altshuller gave his blessing for the idea and Technical Innovation Center went about making this dream a reality. They sought out the support of other active members in the TRIZ community to refine the concept and functional details of the Institute. In the fall of 1998, with the enthusiastic support of many members of the TRIZ community, the Altshuller Institute for TRIZ Studies was established. The Institute has continued to develop, serving the needs of a growing TRIZ community.
